looks good
I have made my own tomato powder for years, but was not able to grow a garden last year and so had to buy some. The first bottle I bought I was not impressed with. So I tried this brand. I opened it and used some last night and it looked and tasted a lot better than what I had bought from the other maker. This looks more like what I am used to.I think one difference is I use several different varieties in making mine. I think most manufacturers probably use all or mostly Roma tomatoes, since they produce so much more pulp than the others. The problem with that is that the Romas do not have as good a taste as other varieties, so the powder made from them is inferior. I don't know what variety this maker uses, but their powder did look and taste more like mine than what I got from a different maker.I use mine mostly to make my version of chili, which everyone really likes. I start by making broth by boiling beef, chicken, pork, or turkey bones for 8 or 10 hours, and then straining it. That broth is the base. Then I stir fry diced celery, onions, peppers, and mushrooms, and put them in the broth. I add some kind of meat, usually two different types, depending on what I have left over in the refrigerator or what's on sale, and I add garlic at this point. After that all cooks together for awhile I mix in enough tomato powder and cumin to turn the broth into a thick chili sauce (when I have to buy tomato powder instead of using my own I also add in a can of tomato paste, because the powder is relatively expensive). It takes quite a bit of tomato powder and cumin both; I mix some in, let it cook in for a few minutes, and then taste a little; I usually do this several times before I get the right taste. This is very good and very nutritious. The broth adds depth to the taste as well as good nutrition. Joint bones make the best broth. The broth is so thick it sets up like jello in the refrigerator (if you cook it down to where the bones are sticking up above it), and the fat all floats to the top, where it can be removed easily if desired.

Great for Soups and Stews
The taste wasn't overwhelming tomato. I've used it in stews and soups and it gives it a nice low-keyed taste. What I like better is that it mixes with other spices giving a wonderful sophistication to anything you're cooking. Not sure how to explain it.. tones down chili and paprika seasonings... makes everything a little more mellow. You can still spice it up with one of the hotter peppers. The stews and soups look and smell gorgeous. Especially when you don't want a strong tomato taste and want one of the other flavors to reign. I've also added a small amount to gravies to give it some appetizing color. I mixed it with a spoon of instant coffee... when my gravy is too pale for the dish. Shake both together in water bottle "before" mixing it in your gravy. You can have a mess otherwise, never throw the mixture in dry. You can get a beautiful color and a good taste.

Love the product, will buy again! Hopefully the next time I will get a container that closes 🙄
I really love this product! We use it to make doritos flavored pork rinds and I generally put it into alot of my foods. Plus the ingredients are really good compared to other products and you get a lot of product here!!! Will definitely buy again!..... My only complaint is that the plastic container is really bad; the lid did not close all the way and looks like it never snapped closed. We had to move the powder to a mason jar because it was clumping so bad due to the lid popping open (never closed in the first place) and staying open. Also a recipe for a huge mess.

GOod tomato taste
I prefer canned tomato if I have it, but this stuff is great! You can make tomato paste from it and it has a very good pure tomato flavor. It's especially nice to add a tomato zing to a beef roast without adding a lot of water. Note that canned tomatoes, sauces and paste have salt and sugar in them so to mimic canned flavor you need to add those elements or this tastes a bit different

So many uses!
I'd been meaning to buy tomato powder for a while (I like to make spice blends for friends). This stuff comes in handy all the time, and I keep finding new uses. It's great for dips, soups, sauces, marinades, et cetera. It's especially helpful in adding tomatoey goodness without adding more moisture or the tinny uncooked flavor tomato paste can add. It's fun to play with, and I haven't regretted anything yet. Will certainly buy again.

Good for cooking
I bought this to make my own tomato juice. Too bad it is brown, a bit gritty and seperates. Not great for that application but I do use it in my rubs for smoking meats & cooking and it is good for that.

Extremely cheap package.
I tried not to do this review, but you insisted. There were quite a few good reviews so I decided to give it a try. It came in good condition, however after breaking the seal, it became obvious that the packaging was extremely cheap. Neither side of the lid will snap closed. The plastic is very thin. It will have to be moved to another container if it is to stay fresh. This stuff does have a taste. Not sure what it is, but I do know it's not tomatoes. I tried mixing with a little water and it stayed grainy with the same bad taste. I tried sprinkling it on a burger only to ruin the taste of the burger. This was my first experience with tomato powder, so I thought maybe this was the way it is supposed to taste. I ordered another brand with good reviews and boy howdy...the new stuff was great. Now I get it. I suppose it could be from a bad batch. No matter, this bottle is going in the trash...
