Western cooking wood chunks can be used in dozens of different types of grills to add that wonderful wood smoke flavor to your barbeque dishes. Chunks are great to use with charcoal for added flavor, but for best results and completely natural cooking, use only 100% wood chunks. Apple is quickly becoming one of the most popular flavors of wood for grilling or smoking in the United States. Apple wood produces a mild yet delicate smoke with a hint of sweetness to add a very distinctive flavor to meats grilled or smoked with it. Apple is great for pork, Fish, poultry and light meat game birds.

Smokes some tasty pig!
Recently started curing and smoking bacon; buying the pork belly from the county butcher shop, Wilson's Meats in Catlet, VA, and wanted an assortment of smoking woods to compare. Bought pecan, cherry and apple. So far, have only experienced the apple; mixed great with the maple syrup and peppercorn finish brushed over the pellicle followed by three hours in the smoker.

Great smoke!!
This is a convenient way to order them since most stores in my are only carry the chips and not the chunks which I prefer for a longer lasting and more flavorful smoke.

Good chips.
Good wood chips. There was a good variation in particle size with some larger chips and some smaller pins. It worked well in a small smokebox (grill top) and in an offset smokebox. It is pricier than I would like, but it beats buying a wood chipper and finding wood.

Apple Wood Grilling
Simply put, the best wood I've ever used for grilling. If you grill using the indirect method, just soak a few pieces in water for 30 minutes and add to the coals. I use a Weber kettle with the bottom vents all the way open and use the dome vent to control the smoke. The wood chunks are, for the most part, nicely sized. Apple wood gives a mellow, not too intense flavor. I'll buy more.

Good product but seller limits purchase
This is a good wood but the seller limit on how many you can purchase is frustrating. If not for that I would rate it higher.

Good sized pieces.
I have ordered a few different type of wood chunks from Western and they all have been a great value when purchased on sale. The wood adds a great flavor to the meat. The Apple is no exception. Good size chunks and dry seasoned wood.

Great Flavor
Great size and flavor. Use them with my MES 430s. Last long and smoke great, just wish there was a little less bark and a little more uniform size.

Awesome for use with charcoal grill
These chunks add nice smoky flavor to any meats you cook using two zone setup in a Weber kettle grill. Just put a chunk or two on the coals as you get ready to cook meat on the indirect side of the two zone setup.

Gives my smoker food the perfect flavor.
Burns better than other wood chips. Don't waste food trying anything less.

Wood chunks are big and long lasting in my smoker
The wood chucks are large - not chips - and last easily 1- 2 hours in the smoker. Great flavor.

Good smoke not overpowering
Great product. I typically only use one and if I want real smokey I soak it first and put it on top of my charcoal. For a good mild smoke flavor I add one to my charcoal as I'm lighting it and end up with great flavored meat !!!
